The General Description of the Empress Card in Tarot

In the traditional Rider-Waite deck, The Empress card depicts a woman dressed in a pomegranate-patterned dress robe, which symbolizes fertility and abundance. Further the woman is surrounded by lush greenery and a stream of water pouring through it. The Empress is depicted as sitting on a throne that is red, velvet and cushiony, with the cushions embroidered with is the symbol of Venus. 



The Empress is taken to represent mother Earth and Venus, also having the ability to bless whomever she meets, as her crown has stars on its, portraying her divine connection. She is seen as the goddess of nature as nature surrounds her, and she has the ability to manifest anything in nature and turn that into reality.

Upright position meaning of the Empress Card in Tarot

When The Empress Tarot card appears in an upright position in a reading, it symbolizes that you are a caring and nurturing human, who is extremely generous when it comes to finances. You want everyone to have an experience what you have. This card also means that you might be lacking selfcare, and you are supposed to nourish yourself as the empress is surrounding herself with everything lush. ​



The card also literally means motherhood, represented by mother Earth. When this card appears in a reading, you could be pregnant or wanting to become a mother. When the ​Empress card appears reversed in a tarot card reading, it means that one lacks self-interest and care. The way that you are, too generous, has itself become the infection that you have to get rid off. This could be because the ones you are smothering with love and affection, are not generous themselves to return that favor to you or you are caring too much for the wrong person. 



The Empress reversed also means that you are going through an unfulfilling career or are feeling a little ignored, and insecure in your everyday job.
